08/02/2007: "The Past"
25 years ago today, Aug. 2, 1982, was the day of my high school graduation. That was the day I presented the shortest valedictory speech in the history of valedictorianism.
Cooper: Diane, last night I dreamed I was eating a large, tasteless gumdrop,
and awoke to discover I was chewing on one of my foam disposable earplugs.
Perhaps I should consider moderating my nighttime coffee consumption.

I don't think there's any video record of the event, but I'd be very surprised if it passed two minutes. It was probably even shorter. I didn't really have anything to say. And back then, I wasn't the chatterbox I've become today.

Those were simpler times. Today, everybody's talkin loud and sayin nuttin. Fools everywhere HAVE to say something. Back in 1982, the wise HAD something to say. I'm sittin right now inside of an air-conditioned library. And just behind me sits a young girl no more than 14 with a concert shirt that reads...1982 World Tour "Speak of the Devil". That's the Ozzy Era. Boy, that girl sure has it together. "Marty, we got to get back...back to 1982!"
