Cooper: Diane, last night I dreamed I was eating a large, tasteless gumdrop, and awoke to discover I was chewing on one of my foam disposable earplugs. Perhaps I should consider moderating my nighttime coffee consumption.

06/15/2006: "Science"

It's like living in the not too distant future. They tried to deliver my new phone yesterday (a Nokia; how you like me now, Motorola!) but a signature's required so I called the UPS today. Fortunately most deliveries are just left on the porch, so it's been a while since I had to do this. The whole set-up is voice activated. And it actually understood when I read the 10 digit number and when I said "arrange for pickup". Only once did it start to be a comedy routine when I said, "no" and the voice said, "I'm sorry, I didn't understand that." And I had to repeat it a couple times. But mostly I was amazed that I went through the whole procedure of getting them to stop trying to deliver it and let me pick it up without talking to a person or pressing any buttons. Now if there were only some way to get all deliveries without requiring a signature....
