03/29/2008: "Theater"
It's been a while since I've been to an audition. It's been a really long while since I've been to a competitive audition. Tonight I auditioned for "Brigadoon" at PM&L Theatre. I sang my old standby, "Shipoopi", and I felt like it went pretty well. But there were several guys there with full, rich voices, so we'll see. I expect I'll be offered a part in the chorus -- not to be self-deprecating; it's just that even I could see that these other guys were pretty good. And since I said Yes to the "will you accept any other role?" question, I'll take it, which is kind of unfortunate (if I end up in the chorus), since that will prevent me from auditioning for "Ragtime", the summer show in Wilmette this year, home of my best theater experience ever a couple years ago. But, you can't predict the future (or I can't), so I wouldn't skip a bunch of auditions waiting for any specific one. I'd rather be available to audition for something than be in the chorus in something else. But I'd also rather be in something than nothing. Now I'm so pretzeled up I don't know where I was going with this.
It was my 45th audition in my lengthy 4 and a half year theater experiment. And my 6th at this theater. I've only been cast in one show there, in the chorus (gasp!) of "Sweeney Todd".
