Cooper: Diane, last night I dreamed I was eating a large, tasteless gumdrop, and awoke to discover I was chewing on one of my foam disposable earplugs. Perhaps I should consider moderating my nighttime coffee consumption.

Theater

It's been a while since I've been to an audition. It's been a really long while since I've been to a competitive audition. Tonight I auditioned for "Brigadoon" at PM&L Theatre. I sang my old standby, "Shipoopi", and I felt like it went pretty well. But there were several guys there with full, rich voices, so we'll see. I expect I'll be offered a part in the chorus -- not to be self-deprecating; it's just that even I could see that these other guys were pretty good. And since I said Yes to the "will you accept any other role?" question, I'll take it, which is kind of unfortunate (if I end up in the chorus), since that will prevent me from auditioning for "Ragtime", the summer show in Wilmette this year, home of my best theater experience ever a couple years ago. But, you can't predict the future (or I can't), so I wouldn't skip a bunch of auditions waiting for any specific one. I'd rather be available to audition for something than be in the chorus in something else. But I'd also rather be in something than nothing. Now I'm so pretzeled up I don't know where I was going with this.

It was my 45th audition in my lengthy 4 and a half year theater experiment. And my 6th at this theater. I've only been cast in one show there, in the chorus (gasp!) of "Sweeney Todd".

Standup Philosopher

This is so good, I just have to make a note of it. Maybe it seems more monumental to me as such a big "Back To The Future" geek, but whatever the reason, here he is, ladies and gentlemen, Thomas F. Wilson:

Biff Sings!

Pointless Filler #27

Three things I've learned this week:

1. Although I still can't explain why shrimp makes me ill -- even though other seafood and even shellfish seem to have no effect and I was fine with shrimp until 4 or 5 years ago -- I now believe that even the smallest amount must be avoided. Sometimes I have sandwiches with those crab or lobster chunks -- you know, the ones that have no crab or lobster, just some kind of fish with crab or lobster flavoring. This last brand I tried actually had a very small number of shrimp mixed in. And a few hours after eating it, I paid the price. It could have been worse. But for about four hours I was wishing I could go back and not eat that sandwich.

2. It would appear that I need to leave home before 6:15 to avoid extensive construction delays, which just started this week. And even though I have two main routes to work that have no overlap, they both have construction on them, worse than usual. That's the wisdom of the government and their construction industry cronies. Leave Dan with no alternate routes. And dollars to donuts (did you just say "dollars to donuts", grandpa?), next winter (or next year, or next decade) when the construction is done, the roads will be no better than they were a year ago.

3. The strong taste of grapefruit juice -- and I mean that in an offensive way -- is so powerful that it comes through even when the juice is mixed with Gatorade and water and only makes up 20% of the final solution. It's overwhelming. So, bye bye, grapefruit juice. See ya. Would not wish to be ya.

It should be obvious that "Lost" is my #1 "current" show. But what would be number 2? Jericho? Survivor? That Terminator show? I'm starting to think that it's "Breaking Bad". The 7 episode first (?) season has concluded on AMC, but it's currently being re-run.

Cars

So I was driving to work this morning, and I noticed 3 different G35s on the road. I couldn't say what years. I'm not a car expert. Or even an amateur enthusiast. Still no G37s, though. Usually when you get a new car, you start to notice that model all over the place -- presumably they were always there but now that you've got one they suddenly seem to grab your attention. I've had my G37 for over 3 months and I'm pretty sure I haven't spotted any others. Yet.

I'm amazed at how good "Lost" has been since the middle of last season. I dare say it must be in my top 5 dramas of all time. Well, if I actually had such a list.

Of course, #1 and still untouchable would be "Twin Peaks".

I've been reading this blog lately. I find it very interesting, all full of detailed analysis and literary-criticism type observations. He started writing it back in Feb. of 2007, after the 7th episode of season 3. Go ahead and read all the old posts. Hey, I did. Now I feel like I want to go back and watch the series again.
