04/17/2007: "Cars"
What time is it when the clock strikes 13? Oh, sweet beloved infiniti, how can I live with what you've become. The boys at the body shop may be able to make you good as new, but I'll know. Yes, I'll know.
I was the 3rd car in a 4 car smash. Poor car #2 was only 2 months old. And car #4 had to be towed away. I can't wait to see what the (4th car's) insurance appraiser says my repair costs will be. Or, I should say, how much they'll pay for the repairs. Something tremendous, I'm expecting. Even more, I hope there's a reputable shop that will do it for what the appraiser says. That rear quarterpanel stretches all the way to the front windshield. For goodness sake. It really looks much worse in person than the photo.
No one was hurt. And my car's still driveable. It's just a hideous shadow of its once proud self.

Does this mean you have to pay for car #2's damage? Can you blame it on the weather? I like how you blurred out your license plate number just like on "cops."

I can't predict the future, but everything I've heard so far leads me to believe that car #4 is responsible for everyone's damage. That's what insurance is for. I do have a concern about the difference between what they'll be willing to pay and what an auto shop will charge. In theory, though, I shouldn't have to pay anything, but there's always something to bite you. Like, car #4's insurance says they'll pay for a rental -- but only for the number of days their appraiser says the repairs should take.

Get your Rental! Get it Paid! Get the car fixed, and then Sell, Sell, Sell! My consumer reporter says if one gets a new car every few years and puts many, many, miles on it...the way you do...one should absolutely LEASE their car! Just consider it, Chuck. Glad you weren't hurt.

I don't know much about leasing, but I'm sure there would be extra mileage fees. I've been doing 22K per year. And I think we probably have different ideas of how often buying a new car "every few years" is. I bought this one in 2002 and the one before that was in 1996, so it's not like I'm selling them before a normal payoff period.
