Surgery
Since the future is a very large span of time, there is still a great potential for regrets about the surgery I had last week. But there is one thing I know I regret. I passed out in the pre-op room. Or at least that was the last thing I remember. Now, usually, when I get down to the operating room, I like to ask if I'll be able to play the violin after the operation. (That's funny, doc. I couldn't before!) It's just as well, of course. The doctors are usually busy getting ready down there. And the one guy whose attention you can get as you're passing out is going to be the least likely to get an old-timey, vaudeville-sounding, American-historical-pop-cultural joke like that, anyway. But I still don't get tired of doing it. Or trying to do it. Or thinking about doing it.

Killer Owl
How cool is this? During yesterday's and today's intermissions at "The Odd Couple", the director put on the "Lone Pine Lane" CD. And even though I'm pretty sure everyone didn't know they were hearing, well, me -- at least not right away -- I didn't hear anyone complaining about why someone was playing that noise. Heck, during the strike today, one of the stage crew even stopped a CD and starting playing mine instead! Yeah. That is pretty cool.
And for some extra fun, replace 'owlsongs' with 'mp3' in the link above.

Pointless Filler #27
Hey, one more weekend to see Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple (female version)" in sunny Round Lake!
As this show is wrapping up, you'd think I'd be continuing my tradition of more auditions. But my impending surgicalifragilicious procedure kind of puts a damper on that. I am going to be Drosselmeyer in this December's "The Nutcracker" again (third fantastic year!), which will be my fifth show of 2007; it was the sixth show of both 2005 and 2006. (This year's "Nutcracker" will be my 23rd show overall.)
Speaking of surgery (6th abdominal surgery overall), how cool is it that the University of Chicago Hospitals have high speed wireless access throughout the facilities. As do many hospitals now. Of course, as a patient, the problem is how can you bring something valuable like your precious laptop into a hospital room where you're likely to be passed out half the time while a steady stream of strangers comes in and out all day. I can't see doing it. I'll just have to live like it's 1985 and go cold turkey from that internet thing while incarcerated on the south side of Chicago.
Ah, 1985. Such a simple time.
