Cooper: Diane, last night I dreamed I was eating a large, tasteless gumdrop,
and awoke to discover I was chewing on one of my foam disposable earplugs.
Perhaps I should consider moderating my nighttime coffee consumption.

"Journey To The Center of the Earth", starring Brendan Fraser? No, this is the trailer for "Journey At The Center Of The Earth". Genius.

Back to more commonly known Cary Grant movies. I would put "I Was A Male War Bride" in the mildly amusing category. It was directed by Howard Hawks, but didn't have anything close to the zippy, crackling dialogue of "His Girl Friday". Cary Grant's a French officer, but makes no attempt at any kind of accent. I can't imagine that happening today. Maybe in the '40s, it was enough that he didn't sound American. Or maybe, he's Cary Grant, so just let him be Cary Grant. Basically, he hates this female American officer, which in the movies means they love each other, and they're quickly married. But the military has all these regulations that address the issue of officers and their spouses -- with the assumption that the spouse is a woman -- which causes no end of problems for the two of them trying to get out of France and back to America.
As of today, my Cary Grant Project total is at four:
1. "The Philadelphia Story", 1940, also starring Katharine Hepburn & James Stewart
2. "North By Northwest", 1959, also starring Eva Marie Saint & James Mason
3. "The Pride And The Passion", 1957, also starring Frank Sinatra and Sophia Loren
4. "I Was A Male War Bride", 1949, also starring Ann Sheridan

More Cary Grant Project! So soon I've stumbled across a Cary Grant movie that I haven't seen several times. It's "The Pride And The Passion". I don't want to say that I didn't like it -- because I can't believe I might not like a Cary Grant movie -- but this wasn't really a Cary Grant movie by anyone's definition. By itself, this isn't that bad of a movie. It just doesn't meet the expectations of having Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, and Sophia Loren as the stars. There's no lighthearted fun here. Because it's about Spain being invaded by France in the early 19th century and the efforts of a rag-tag bunch of rebels to use the world's largest cannon to fight back. I didn't recognize Sinatra as the leader of the rebels with a bad wig and a bad Spanish accent. And Loren was supposed to be torn between Sinatra and Grant, but none of them seemed much interested in anything. I'm thinking this might be the lowest rated movie on this list (if I were actually rating them) and I've managed to get it out of the way so early in the Project!
As of today, my Cary Grant Project total is at three:
