Warm Is A Four Letter Word

The Lyrics

Is It Hot In Here?

1993, Daniel C. Eaglin) 1. Sherry got all she wanted 'cause she knew that she could. She was better than most and much better than good. She used men like kleenex then she threw them away. More would show up by the end of the day. Charlie walked by but he didn't stare at her. There were plenty of others; this one shouldn't matter. But she had to know more. She was strangely intrigued. Charlie paid her no mind. She was out of his league. 2. He started to see her wherever he went. Just a coincidence is all that it meant. It was hard not to notice the attention she drew. The unashamed gapes and admiring stares too. Then one day at the post office checking his mail box There she was once again, the omnipresent hot fox. "I am Sherry, you're Chuck," she cautiously said. He couldn't think what to say, so he nodded instead. Refrain: It was all so confusing. In fact, nothing was clear. Charlie got to trembling when Sherry was near. He thought to himself, I've got nothing to fear. But, man, is it me or is it hot in here? 3. He wouldn't even talk to me, Sherry thought with chagrin. She had thought she knew it all when it came to knowing men. But Charlie was no different, and then again he was. He knew the art of subtlety in all he thinks and does. Sherry did not know this so she kept up the good chase. She had a pretty body and she had quite a nice face. Everything Charlie did she was present some way. He stayed a mystery to her, an enigma you'd say. 4. She tried to catch his eye with all the tricks that she'd learned. Charlie wouldn't take the bait for fear he'd get burned. It had become quite obvious to those with eyes to see That anything between the two would surely never be. Sherry kept on dressing up and showing off her best features Which were many and impressive. She had had the best teachers. Must be some sort of trap, Charlie chose to believe. Sherry was a goal which his mind could not conceive. 5. [solo] Sherry wouldn't risk again starting up conversation. Charlie never recognized his excellent situation. The tension between them both caused no aggravation. Having something can't match the anticipation.

Make Us Stars (We Wanna Be Stars)

1993, Daniel C. Eaglin) 1. Some keep studyin' technique, jammin' at the Shack. They're blowin' out their speakers, poker in the back. On the stage for tips and drinks and passin' round the hat. Some call it payin' dues, but we ain't gonna go through that. Refrain: Make us stars. Make us a superstar band. Integrity's a word that we don't understand. Instant celebrity is what we're after. The roar of the crowd. The teenage girls' laughter. We'll change our names to Garth, Doctor Ice, and Lars If that's the magic ticket that'll make us stars. Make us stars. We wanna be stars. Make us stars. We wanna be stars. 2. If you've got a rock star suit, we'll wear it with pride. Tell us how to do our hair: clean shaven or dyed. Really doesn't matter. We're not hung up on our look. Whatever sells the records and the quickie bio book. 3. You've got the market survey, some number one trash. Won't insist on our own songs. Just give us the cash. We'll be the puppets fronting for your cash making cow. No indignity's too great if you'll just make us stars now. 4. We're ready for the masses. They're ready for us. Someone call Variety. Full writeup's a must. Run us through your cookie cutter, super star machine. The kids'll love us and critics crown us: the new "next big thing".

Time Is A Contrivance

1993, Daniel C. Eaglin) Refrain: Time is a contrivance, that's what they say. One thousand and four-forty minutes in each day. Each one's the same as the one before. On and on and on some more. Someone made it up so they'd stay in control. They told us when to be there then they captured our soul. It really took a genius in the field of science. But after all, time is just a contrivance. 1. Always moving; it's relentless. Rich don't care. So pretentious. If time were money, I'd have cash. Not minimum wage, poor white trash. Springin' forward. Fallin' back. Can't afford a one room shack. Never had a place to hang. Alarm goes off; fatal bang. Now I've gotta stand in line. What I've got ain't even mine. Rich got clock; tell the time. Livin' off their legal crime. Tell me when to come and go. Just an extra in their show. Punch their clock, clean their grime. Got no parsley, sage or thyme. 2. Moving forward; never stopping. Struggle while my friends keep dropping. What is time but a contrivance? Product of the blackest science. Tells you when to eat and drink. Makes you late; won't let you think. Have a nap, drink and eat. Winter's chill; summer's heat. Never stops, so I'm told. Takes a young man, makes him old. Takes a young girl, steals her looks. Robs us like the common crooks. Can't insure against time's coming. Wears you down, effects are numbing. Slow but steady, that's its pace. Destroying all the human race.

Mary's In The Woodshed

1994, Daniel C. Eaglin) Refrain: Mary's in the woodshed, away from prying eyes. The neighbors needn't know. They'd only moralize. But tonight I'll let her out. She'll blow your mind and ease the pain. A quiet little party: you and me and Mary Jane. 1. It's really plain to see That major industry Would like to see poor Mary Dead. And governmental types Believe their bogus gripes. That's why she's out back in the Shed. She doesn't want to hurt you. She's a pretty, little flower. But freedom's just a word abused by those who've got the power. 2. She doesn't ask for much. She's got a gentle touch. Not like that alcoholic Worm. Won't knock you off your feet, Embarrass friends you meet. Chill out, you've got no reason to Squirm. No jealousy's involved. M.J. patiently attends. She'll be your go-between as ruined friendships Mary mends. 3. Just believe what you will. Buckle up, guard your grill. True freedom lives on in your Brain. There's a chance that some day The American way Will return and release Mary Jane. In the meantime raise your fists. Stand up tall and shout out loud. Only you can help you to not get trampled by the crowd.

The Brew

1993, Daniel C. Eaglin) 1. Welfare checks won't buy you much. Generic food, Mad Dog and such. Dating's tight, so you go dutch. Just share a brew. Drift out of touch. Refrain: The more you try to tell us what we cannot do The more we'll want to drink the witches' brew. The most expensive brew is bought with money and fame But it comes in many flavors and the ending's the same. 2. Kids like brew. Think they won't fall. Drinking and drugs. Flesh free-for-all. Right in class, down at the mall. Robbing Peter. Paying off Paul. 3. When you're young they teach you no. Don't talk. Don't touch. Don't ask. Don't go. Brandon Lee died in The Crow. River Phoenix had too much blow. 4. Sip the brew. Just moderate. Makes you feel good. Strips away hate. Brew wears off. You compensate. Quit any time. No, it's too late.

Shinin'

1993, Daniel C. Eaglin) Let's go shinin' tonight! Refrain: Don't you want to go shinin' tonight? We'll walk around in the dark, then we'll switch on a light. With no guns or knives or Kodachrome We'll see the birds and the bees then I'll take you on home. 1. Twelve point bucks. Flocks of ducks. It's us against them. Nature's best. Honest quest. The creme de la creme. Me and you. Caribou. Stayin' out really late. All alone. On our own. Won't hesitate. 2. Bear and deer. Human fear. We make a pretty good team. Sleeping bag. Doe or stag. You know what I mean. Underbrush. Feel the rush. Wildlife scatters. We make 'em run. All in fun. You're all that matters.

Time Heals All Wounds

1994, Daniel C. Eaglin) Refrain: Time heals all wounds and affairs of the heart. Don't call it a breakup. It's just a fresh start. And maybe the next one won't treat you like dirt. But you won't know it's pleasure if you haven't been hurt. 1. You may feel mistreated, ill-used and abused. But you're not the only one, pal. It's all kind of blurry, still somewhat confused. It happens to both guys and gals. And maybe they told you they'd like to be friends. I'm sure you know just what that means. Just try to forget it. There's one thing that mends The heartache of seniors and teens. 2. You might try a hobby to help you forget. You're only deceiving yourself. A project, a good book, or even a pet; Not even inherited wealth Can wipe out the past and the way you feel now. So chill out and relax your brain. Some day you'll have sunshine and not one dark cloud. Some day you'll forget all the pain. Outro: Take comfort in this age-old truth. You prob'ly learned it in your youth. In any life it's soon to be found What goes around will come back around.

Nothing But The Best

1994, Daniel C. Eaglin) Refrain: When it comes to satisfaction, and getting what you need. Some take the cards they're dealt. Their fulfillment's guaranteed. The mediocre's not for me. I'm on a private quest. My sights are set on you. I want nothing but the best. 1. My friends all deal in quantity. They want a lot of things. Quality is what I want. The pleasure that it brings. So if you're far beyond my reach I'll stick it out alone. You know that you're the best In a class all of your own. 2. It seems that any place you go A charge is in the air. In any situation You've got a special flair. It's hard to say just what it is. Je ne sais quoi, perchance. Your presence stops me cold. You've got me in a trance. Outro: [1/2 verse instrumental] So if you're far beyond my reach I'll stick it out alone. You know that you're the best In a class all of your own.

The Woods

1994, Daniel C. Eaglin) Refrain: Laura's never coming back. Got caught in a surprise attack. Stay out of the woods. They'll swallow you whole. If you play with fire you might lose your soul. 1. Out in the woods on a dark winter's night. Satisfying passions that are kept out of sight. Not quite alone. The owls are not what they seem. Is this for real? Or just a strange twisted dream? Nobody knows the dark secrets we keep. The way they gnaw at our hearts and through our consciousness creep. The woods provide cover for the dark side to roam. But if you're not careful you might not make it home. Bridge: Douglas firs are everywhere. Majestically they stand. With darkness comes an evilness Across the wooded land. 2. It makes no sense why good people go bad. Never satisfied with all the good things they've had. Searching for more. Obsession riddles the brain. Promise of joy. The dark side brings pain. All of us choose the white lodge or the black Where temptations pull you in but you won't be coming back. The blessed may help you but their numbers are few So fight your own battles. The result is up to you.
