More Nuggets Of Joy
The Lyrics
Sunshine And Lollipops
(© 1997, Daniel C. Eaglin)
Refrain:
Sunshine and lollipops.
Let's scream at some traffic cops.
They're just doing their jobs
Or a reasonable facsimile.
So what if in the process
They go nuts and they kill ole me.
1. My favorite teachers:
Bob Denver and Bob Crane.
More real than the mayor,
More fun than Conrad Bain.
Can't trust no authority
Except the Professor.
He's just a cool, smart dude.
Not a father-confessor.
2. I'm pushing up daisies
On the far side of thirty.
Still don't own a tie,
Just this black concert shirty.
My one room apartment
Is really Mom's cellar.
There's no one that bends spoons
Like my man Uri Geller.
3. I like to be trendy.
Can't stand that classic rock.
Not really a gangster
But I'm packing a glock.
Got no need to grow up.
Got low expectation.
There's always providers
In a welfarin' nation.
Bridge:
The sun comes up.
The sun goes down.
Another day
In happy town.
With sky of grays
And grass of browns.
Somebody save me.
Don't send in the clowns!
Not the clowns.
Please no clowns.
They keep staring.
Clowns.
Always scaring.
Clowns.
Please make them go a way. And bring back...
Jack Loser's Road To Nowhere
(© 1997, Daniel C. Eaglin)
Intro:
I'm on the road
The road to nowhere
And I don't know
Why or when
But some day
I'm a'gonna get there
And that'll be the day
My friend.
1. Old Jack is back
And on his way.
He can't afford it
But he's glad to stay.
Then the road comes up
To meet his feet.
This life ain't great
But, hey, it can't be beat.
Refrain:
Oh, the road to nowhere passes by.
Deluxe condos in the sky.
Cardboard boxes 10 feet wide.
Smells like something must have died.
The road to nowhere takes you far.
That guy over there was once a star.
Now he's just a human scar.
Look around and there you are.
{Had to pawn his old guitar.}
{Can you say Lieutenant Yar?}
2. He met a girl
In Baton Rouge.
They said beside her
That no man could lose.
When she stole his heart
He did not blink.
Just hit the road
Where you're still free to think.
3. Down Phoenix way
The sun did shine.
Jack's brain got fried
From drinking homemade wine.
It was just a desert
Burning sand.
No answers here
He only got a tan.
4. It took some time
But don't you know.
At last he made it
Up to Idaho.
Well, they say it's safe,
Disaster-free.
Just hunt and fish
And lots of apres-ski.
I Meant To Thank You
(© 1997, Kevin M. Eaglin)
Refrain:
I meant to thank you when times got tough.
I meant to thank you when I had enough.
When things were strange and seemed rearranged
I meant to thank you. I meant to thank you.
I'd like to say, thank you.
1. When a cold exchange felt like a warm embrace,
I glanced away to miss your face.
(I meant to thank you.)
When self defiance led to your strongest alliance
When all was lost or just plain tossed
(I meant to thank you.)
2. When frigid thoughts turn to mortal rot.
When memories fade to a brief cascade
(I meant to thank you.)
When I denied, still you cried.
Ignored my pleas. Now we both grieve.
(I meant to thank you.)
Blanchester Blues
(© 1997, Daniel C. Eaglin)
1. Trouble seemed to follow me
From the east to the west
Then a voice inside my head
Said, Son, best give it a rest.
Better find your way home
To the city of gold
Where the troubles are few
At least that's what I've been told.
I've got the Blanchester Blues
Got the treble. Got the bass.
Got the Blanchester Blues
I can't seem to find my (that?) place.
2. It'll all be there I'm sure
Blanchester USA
I'll bet that Becky lives there
She's been waiting night and day.
Hanging out with MC.
So patiently they wait
While I search to find this town
In a peaceful southern state.
3. Took a right at Comfort St.
And I headed into town.
I found some open bowling
And the pub was getting down.
It would seem I'd found my way.
But these things were just dreams.
It was great until I woke.
Nothing's ever as it seems.
4. There she is across the room
A pitcher and a smile.
Beckoning for me to come
And while away the while.
Across the land I have searched.
A goal I must achieve.
Bowling, suds, and country girls.
Tell me what else could you need
You're A Girl
(© 1997, Daniel C. Eaglin)
1. You say guys are fools.
It's part of the rules.
But when I called you a whore
You just begged me for more.
It took me a while
To decipher your smile
But you taught me the way
That the game's played today.
Refrain:
I know that you'll take me back
If I treat you like crap.
No matter what I might do
I know that you'll love me true.
No matter what I might say
I know you like it that way.
You're a girl
2. I used to be nice
And I paid the price
Not noticed or considered
Just friendly and embittered.
Then I saw how you act
With your old Daddy Mack.
Your actions taught me much.
Now you're begging for my touch.
Bridge:
Hey there, Chubby.
Have a snack.
Come to daddy.
Get a smack.
You can change me.
Keep on tryin'.
To show my love
I'll keep on lyin'.
3. I gave you my sweater
But you could do better.
I've got to keep up the abuse
Keep you mentally fragile and loose.
For the meaner I get,
My devoted young pet,
The more I'm in demand
Life, for us creeps, can be grand.
Down By The River
(© 1997, Daniel C. Eaglin)
Refrain:
Down by the river
There's a place we can stay.
We can do what we want
Or do nothing all day.
There is peace by the river
Our pursuers won't find.
We can plot our return
Or relax and unwind.
1. Escape with me
From a life that's a drag.
Why should it be us
That gets left holding the bag.
When the system collapses
And chaos ensues
The executives are safe.
It's the small guys that lose.
You've got to be aware
Of what the future may hold;
Know the pros and cons
Of holding t-bills or gold.
The shack down by the river
Will serve all our needs.
The pantry's full of canned goods
And a crateful of seeds.
2. Safe and secure
With our comforts intact.
A satellite dish
And generator out back.
We'll be far from the riots,
The rationing lines,
The government I.D. cards,
The trumped-up taxation fines.
As the river flows by,
In this utopian plot,
Separated by distance,
But disconnected we're not.
This ain't no kind of commune.
It's a bunker of sorts.
Invisible to g-men,
Unknown to the courts.
Release My Soul
(© 1997, Kevin M. Eaglin)
1. The pain I steal is what you feel
When sleepers fall at night.
So enslaved by sinners saved
You slip into the light.
Refrain:
Release my soul for a second chance.
Release my soul for a second chance.
Release my soul for fate not chance.
Release my soul for a second chance.
Release my soul for a second chance.
Release my soul for fate not chance.
2. Rip my bones and steal my throne
Just to see what's real.
The warrior cries in regret
To hear the word and accept.
3. Entities erode your mental abode
Invading all that's right.
Tortured souls with blackened holes
These demons haunt my night.
Bridge:
Hunted down just like a dog
You start to feel as though evolved.
Your grip is strong but I reveal
An inner strength that is concealed.
Trapped
(© 1997, Daniel C. Eaglin)
Refrain:
Trapped. Like the tigers in the Cincinnati Zoo.
Trapped. And there's not a bloody thing that I can do.
Separated by a distance that's not measured in miles.
Frustrated by conventions that keep me far from your smiles.
Some day will come another who will treat you just right.
I'll take my excess baggage and disappear into the night.
Seems I'm trapped like a sap but no further can I go.
My body may be willing but my mind still tells me no.
1. At the start we were friends,
A pretty cool team.
Even better than friends,
A matchmaker's dream.
Platonic it was,
True love does not exist.
Even so you were tops
On my very short list.
If we could read minds
And we both had yearned for more.
We still could never take the steps
To open that door.
Paralyzed by guilt and fear
And making my own choices.
All I can do is say goodbye
And listen to the voices.
Bridge:
Look out man, I'm a real live wire.
I may relax but I won't retire.
You stole my heart and it's still on fire.
Exploding like a funeral pyre.
Sniffing Magic Markers
(© 1997, Daniel C. Eaglin)
1. They're magically fresh.
But they're not meant for eatin'.
They'll help you forget
How far down you've been beatin'.
They come in all flavors.
I'd say red leads the pack.
But Chuck is hard core.
He only likes them if they're black.
Refrain:
If I had a real job
I'd have something to do.
But I'm sniffin' magic markers
'Cause they're better than glue.
Glue may last longer.
At least till it kills.
So we're sniffin' magic markers
For a lifetime of thrills.
2. The clock on the wall
I think it's stopped movin' on.
Sitting beside me
Is a young Goldie Hawn.
She smiles at me sweetly.
Her favorite is green.
She's never met Kurt.
We've got a groovy magic scene.
3. There's drool on my chin
And some pink spots on my eyes.
They can't keep us down.
Magic markers will rise.
There's enough for us all.
Utopia's here.
The marker is king.
Now here's the part where we all cheer.
Bridge:
Red is red is orange is blue.
Hasenpfeffer mushrooms smell good too.
Green is keen and yellow brown.
Banana peels in spring bring me down.
