New Orleans Street Singer
This CD was released in 2005, and like the other New Orleans Street
Singer CD (from 1994), this one contains songs from the 1959 album,
Snooks Eaglin: New Orleans Street Singer. However, that 1994
disc only contained a sampling from that LP, along with tracks from 2 other
early albums. This newer CD contains the full contents of the LP, along
with some unreleased tracks; plus a very extensive booklet which contains
a bio and notes on each song. And to me, this is simply a guess, but
it just seems more accurate. The 1994 CD credited Snooks as the writer
on many songs that are shown with a different author here. Given that
Snooks isn't known as a prolific songwriter, and that the new CD is on
the Smithsonian label, I'm thinking the new CD probably has the correct
info. It gives me a vibe of being well-researched. That's also why I'm
guessing, in cases where song titles are "kind of" the same on each CD,
the new one probably has the "correct" titles. Still, despite the
identical names, this CD doesn't replace the earlier one. The old
one still has 18 tracks from other LPs.
